Monday, the Quarterly Employment Survey released by Statistics New Zealand showed that employment, as measured by the number of full-time equivalent employees, declined 2% sequentially in the March quarter. At the same time, filled jobs slipped 2.6%.

Further, the seasonally adjusted total paid hours were down 0.4% in the March quarter. However, the total gross earnings rose 0.7%.

Annually, the number of full-time employees declined 1.7% in the March quarter, while filled jobs fell 1.1%. The total paid hours was down 1.9%, on a seasonally adjusted basis. However, total gross earnings increased 3.3%.
