Will (Jeff Daniels) is willing to go to any lengths to protect Neal (Dev Patel, not pictured) in episode 3 of "The Newsroom" Season 3. HBO

The last episode of HBO’s “The Newsroom” Season 3 ended with the FBI beginning to raid ACN’s newsroom, naturally putting most of the characters on edge. Not Will, though. TV Guide got some details on episode 3, “Main Justice,” revealing that Will (Jeff Daniels) will keep his cool under pressure -- even as he becomes the focal point of the investigation.

Fans know that at the end of episode 2, Will tips Neal (Dev Patel) off that the FBI had arrived to interrogate him about his source for illegally obtained government documents. Neal flees, but Will stays behind to bear the brunt of the investigation, claiming to also know the name of the source. However, according to TV Guide, Will may not understand the consequences of his actions, as the FBI is willing to go to any length to get that name. The promo for the episode shows Will being bluntly told that his refusal to give up the name is a big problem.

Why would Will go to such lengths to protect Neal? A quote from executive producer and writer Aaron Sorkin on the show’s Facebook page may explain Will’s dedication.

“Because of the way he was brought up, Will is very protective of people he considers family,” Sorkin teased fans on Facebook.

Sorkin's explanation of Will's action was accompanied by an episode 2 clip where Will confessed that he didn't use to know Neal’s name, but certainly did now. Will seems ready to do anything to protect Neal.

Will ACN’s leading anchor go to jail for Neal? What will the FBI do to make him give up the name of the source? Fans will have to tune in to find out. “The Newsroom” airs Sundays at 9 p.m. EST on HBO.
