Amid the many supposed sightings of the Nexus 5, we may simply need to look no further than the Nexus 4 for real information on the coming device.

Those possibly looking to unload their Nexus 4 before the impending release of the Nexus 5 can now take advantage of Best Buy’s trade-in program, where the retailer gives store credit for old handsets. The program appears to be set in place only for the T-Mobile model of the Nexus 4, according to its website; however, the Reddit user who initially discovered the deal insists that program is for model number “LG-E960,” which is the Nexus 4, regardless of the carrier.

Days ago Best Buy was offering up to $262.50 in store credit for a Nexus 4 in perfect condition, but now the program offers up to $157.50 for a near-new Nexus 4, $150.00 for a gently worn handset, $67.50 for a handset in poor condition and no refund for a broken, non-functional Nexus 4. This price is set regardless of whether the Nexus 4 handset is an 8GB or 16GB model.

The reimbursement price probably was dropped because it was more than the current price of the Nexus 4 at the Google Play Store. The 16GB Nexus 4 now sells for $249.00, while the 8GB Nexus 4 was recently discontinued. The handset quickly sold out once its price dropped to $199.00, and pundits believe it will not return to the market in order to make room for the Nexus 5.

While the Nexus 4 has been experiencing price drops, the Nexus 5 has supposedly been spotted at several locations, including the unveiling of Android 4.4 KitKat, at the FCC and at Bluetooth SIG. Many believe these sightings are clues that the Nexus 5 will soon be unveiled and released. Rumors suggest the Nexus 5 will launch in October alongside Android 4.4 KitKat.

As for the Nexus 4 trade-in program, there is no indication that the reimbursement price will drop further, so customers interested in taking advantage of this program may want to do so soon before any other changes occur.

Customers can utilize the trade-in program by taking their Nexus 4 handset to their local Best Buy or by visiting the trade-in webpage and shipping their handset directly back to Google.
