New York Giants wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. will be on the cover of EA Sports’ “Madden NFL 16” video game, winning a fan vote over New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski earlier this week. Others who made the top four included Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Antonio Brown and Arizona Cardinals cornerback Patrick Peterson.

“Odell Beckham Jr. is a true playmaker and a perfect fit for this year’s game,” Randy Chase, senior director of marketing for EA Sports, said via the game’s official website. “He’s an unstoppable force out on the field, and the 'Madden NFL 16' cover is further vindication that the fans believe he’s a player to watch in the coming years."

The official Twitter account of EA Sports announced the results on Wednesday night.

Beckham also thanked the fans who voted for him.

Every NFL and Madden fan now waits to see if Beckham falls victim to the “Madden Curse” -- as several players have turned in bad or worse seasons or injury-plagued seasons after landing on the cover of the NFL video game. Adrian Peterson, Peyton Hillis, Brett Favre, Marshall Faulk, Michael Vick, Ray Lewis, Donovan McNabb and Shaun Alexander are among the NFL players who couldn’t avoid the curse in the past.

By winning the finals voting, Beckham, 22, became the youngest player ever to grace the Madden cover, Darren Rovell of ESPN reported.

The Giants’ rookie sensation was one of the few bright spots for New York’s season; the team finished with a 6-10 record. Beckham played in 12 games and finished with 1,305 receiving yards on 91 catches with 12 touchdowns in his first year in the NFL.
