Tila Tequila, the MTV dating show star, went to hospital on Sunday after her boyfriend, San Diego Chargers linebacker Shawne Merriman, allegedly choked and physically restrained her when she tried to leave his apartment.

The incident occurred Sunday morning. Merriman was taken by the San Diego police and under suspicion of battery and false imprisonment. His bail was set at $58,000.

Merriman's lawyer reportedly said his client tried to stop Tequila from leaving his home because she was extremely inebriated and he didn't feel it was safe for her to leave, TMZ.com reported.

Tequila was released from hospital, according to TMZ.com.
