Nokia has officially unveiled the Lumia 1020 at the company’s “Zoom Reinvented” event in New York City Thursday. The Lumia 1020 features a 4.5-inch screen and 2GB of RAM in addition to a 41-megapixel camera sensor and large lens, as the company continues to focus on releasing Windows Phone devices with high-end photo features. Nokia confirmed the release date for the Lumia 1020 will be July 26.

Hoping consumers will be willing to pay $100 more than other "flagship" devices from Samsung and Apple, Nokia CEO Stephen Elop introduced the Lumia 1020 as “the next chapter in smartphone photography.” The Nokia Lumia 1020 will release in yellow, black and white versions, as had previously been reported, and will release at a future date on AT&T before competing carriers.

The Lumia 1020 will contain a 1.5 GHz dual-core processor, 2GB of RAM and 32GB of built-in memory that, along with the battery, will not be removable or upgradeable.

The 41-megapixel camera sensor on the Nokia Lumia 1020 has a dual capture feature, where the phone simultaneously saves a 5-megapixel image right at the same time as taking a larger image, combining 7 pixels into one in a process known as “oversampling.” The 5-megapixel image will have a smaller filesize for easier sharing from the Lumia 1020 to various social networks. Recorded video will also utilize the process, allowing for “amazing quality and amazing clarity” on the Lumia 1020, Elop said.

“The whole point of the Lumia 1020 is to shoot first, without any worry,” Elop said, “So I can go back at a later date, and discover a new story from the same image.”

The camera in the Lumia 1020 will also include a “second generation” version of Nokia’s Optical Image Stabilization technology, where the camera lens sits on coils that move in conjunction allowing a user to minimize the blurriness caused by unsteady hands. The Lumia 1020 camera will contain six lenses, with Zeiss Wide Angle optics. The phone also includes a back side illuminted sensor to capture more light in dark settings, and the Lumia 1020 camera will include manual focus.

The Nokia Lumia 1020 will come first to AT&T, the company said. Hipstamatic will have an exclusive new feature called Ogle Pro, which Nokia said will launch exclusively with the Lumia 1020.
