Nokia has agreed to use Microsoft's PlayReady content access delivery technology its S60 and Series 40 mobile device platforms starting in 2008, Microsoft announced Monday.

Playready allows content owners and service providers to deliver virtually any type of digital content. It is designed for digital entertainment services, devices, and applications.

The technology supports a range of business models - including subscription, rental and pay-per-view - that can be applied to almost any type of digital content, including music, video, games, ring tones, images and a wide range of audio and video formats.

By adding support for Microsoft PlayReady technology, we are enabling service providers to offer a wide range of content and create truly compelling experiences across mobile devices, personal computers and online services,' said Ilkka Raiskinen, senior vice president of Multimedia Experiences at Nokia.

Financial terms were not disclosed.
