Wednesday, the Statistics Norway reported that the Norwegian jobless rate rose to 3.1% in the January to March period, after a new adjustment to international recommendations for the definition of unemployment. During the October to December period, the unemployment rate was 2.8%. Economists had expected a rate of 3.2% for January to March period.
Without this adjustment, the unemployment would have been 3.3% for the January to March period, the statistical office said.
According to Statistics Norway, the Labor Force Survey showed that the number in employment decreased 4,000 from the October to December period. But, this was inside the error margin, and when taking the error margin into account, employment has been stable since April 2008, the agency noted.
