Nurse Jackie” is getting a big dose of star power in the form of an Emmy winning cast member for Season 7. Tony Shalhoub will join the cast for a recurring role in the show’s new episodes, according to Spoiler TV. The new addition will hopefully offset the announcement earlier this summer than Peter Facinelli was leaving the show.

Shalhoub is best know for his longtime portrayal of Adrian Monk on USA’s “Monk,” which lasted for 8 hit seasons. Shalhoub won three Emmy’s for Best Actor for his work on the show. He has also had a successful film career, including the recently released “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.”

Shalhoub will play Dr. Bernard Prince on “Nurse Jackie,” a new, gentle-mannered ER doctor who will become a friend of Jackie’s. He will also have a special touch with their boss, Gloria.

Season 6 of “Nurse Jackie” ended in June with Jackie attempting to flee New York after finding out she would have to take a drug test. She was arrested after crashing into an ambulance. Showtime renewed the show in the middle of the sixth season in March. New episodes will premiere in 2015.
