A New York City police officer committed suicide by shooting himself in the face while on duty in Queens Thursday night.

The 28-year-old man, a five-year veteran of the 111th Precinct, was responding with his partner to call about a car break-in in Hollis Hills, when he got a call from his girlfriend.

Sources say he got into a heated argument with his girlfriend and fired one bullet into his face after the conversation ended around 11 p.m.

The officer was taken to Long Island Jewish Medical Center where he was pronounced dead. Police say they are still investigating the case.
