President Barack Obama was interviewed on Thursday night at the White House by an 11-year-old journalist from Florida.

Damon Weaver, who rose to fame via internet with his coverage of the 2008 presidential campaign for his school news team, asked Obama on issues such as the White House's education plans, school meals and bullying.

The young journalist, who already has a full scholarship to Albany State University in Georgia , is a star reporter for Kathryn E Cunningham/Canal Point Elementary School's TV station.

Weaver, son of a single mom, lives in the town of Pahokee, which is about 77 miles northwest of Miami and plagued with crime and poverty.

He attends Kathryn E. Cunningham/Canal Point Elementary and is the lead broadcaster for their in-house KEC TV station.
