A man suspected of shooting and killing his pregnant girlfriend Monday morning later shot a police officer following a chase on the streets of Dallas.

The pregnant woman was shot and killed on a street in the Hamilton Park section of Dallas around 10:45 a.m. CDT Monday, causing the nearby Hamilton Park Pacesetter Magnet Elementary School to be placed under lockdown, NBC Dallas-Fort Worth reported.

The condition of the police officer is unknown.

The shooter is believed to have driven away from the scene and a police pursuit ensued, according to the station.

During the Dallas chase, the suspect reportedly returned to the Hamilton Park neighborhood and opened fire on officers. He may have shot a policewoman, the station reported. Dallas police would not confirm that an officer was struck with a bullet.

He ditched the car after it was extensively damage during the chase, NBC Dallas-Fort Worth reported. He is believed to have fled to a nearby house.
