“Once Upon a Time” is finally returning! Season 4 of the hit ABC fairytale series went on hiatus in mid-December, but the drama will kick back up again on Sunday, March 1. Although evil no longer seems to reside in Storybrooke, fans shouldn’t get too comfortable with the idea of a happy ending for their favorite characters.

In episode 12, the winter premiere, the Storybrooke townsfolk will try to get things back to normal. However, things go awry when Hook (Colin O’Donoghue) and Belle (Emilie de Ravin) team up to release the fairies from the Sorcerer’s hat. The synopsis teases that a “terrifying darkness” will descend on the town, and it will be up to Emma (Jennifer Morrison) and Regina (Lana Parrilla) to “confront the true nature of evil.”

Check out all the spoilers for the second half of Season 4 before “Once Upon a Time” returns:

1. “Dark Side” Promo

During the winter finale, viewers were introduced to the “Queens of Darkness” – Ursula (Merrin Dungey), Cruella de Vil (Victoria Smurfit) and Maleficent (Kristin Bauer van Straten). The villains will play a major role in the second half of Season 4, and even seduce a “hero” to join the dark side:

2. The “Queens of Darkness” Backstory

The Queens of Darkness were on good terms when “Once Upon a Time” fans met them, but they weren’t always that way. A sneak peek from episode 12 reveals how the three villains met – Rumplestiltskin (Robert Carlyle):

3. Friendly Terms

Regina and Emma have had their ups and downs. The one thing that always seems to pull them together is Henry (Jared S. Gilmore). However a sneak peek reveals that the pair appear to be on good terms even without their son around:

4. Hell Beasts Not Welcome

Storybrooke will never be a peaceful town, but at least the residents know how to handle danger … like the arrival of a “Hell Beast.” A sneak peek from the winter premiere teases that Emma and the other will try to free the fairies from the Sorcerer’s Hat. However a winged monster will make its way out instead:

5. Hope Or A Cruel Joke

Regina may be strong, but that doesn’t mean she can’t get her heartbroken. A clip from episode 12 shows that she’s still struggling with Robin Hood’s (Sean Maguire) permanent exit from Storybrooke:

6. The Dagger

Rumplestiltskin faced his worst fears when Belle (Emilie de Ravin) discovered that he loved magic more than her. Finding his true dagger, Belle forced him to cross the Storybrooke town border and never return. He ended up in New York City, but viewers can’t forget that Belle still holds the power over him – something that will come into play as the season progresses.

7. Fairytales In The Real World

“Once Upon a Time” fans better prepare for a road trip. Although the ABC series is mostly set in Storybrooke, Maine, viewers will be traveling to New York City to check up on Robin Hood.

8. A New Face

Actress Agnes Bruckner will appear on “Once Upon a Time” as part of a three-episode arc. According to the Hollywood Reporter, details about her role are being kept under wraps.

“Once Upon a Time” Season 4 returns to ABC on Sunday, March 1 at 8 p.m. EST.
