One Direction fans began buzzing Tuesday after video footage emerged showing members of the popular boy band smoking what appears to be a joint and joking about drugs.

In the clip, One Direction member Louis Tomlinson, 22, can be heard from behind the camera, jokingly saying, “So here we are, leaving Peru. Joint lit. Happy days!” His bandmate Zayn Malik, 21, is sitting beside him in the SUV. The group was traveling Lima’s Estadio Nacional as part of the Latin America leg of their 2014 stadium tour, reports The Daily Mail.

‘What do you think about that kind of content?’ Tomlinson asks, to which Malik responds, ”Very controversial,”

One Direction members Liam Payne, Harry Styles and Niall Horan are not in the car. But they probably were traveling in another vehicle as the motorcade made its way to the concert venue.

The video begins as the pair is preparing to leave and head to the stadium. Three members of the band’s team are also present during the video. As what looks to be a member of the band’s security team and the SUV’s driver have a discussion, Tomlinson can be heard saying, “It’s about the joint. What a great thing to capture in a different language. They were just asking if it’s okay.”

A member of the team then asks about him filming the scene and if they are “allowed to talk contraband in this?’”

“Yes, that's what it is about,” Tomlinson replies.

As they begin to drive from the parking lot, Tomlinson says, “I want to light up.” A member of his team then hands him a lighter and the roll-up can be seen being lit.

At one point in the video, Tomlinson pans the camera over to a police officer on a motorcycle outside the window.

“That’s the police. That’s the po po... Nice. I’m trying to blow it into the camera. Smokescreen, baby!”

“That’s just Zayn warming up there before the show. Zayn takes his job very seriously. He makes sure he goes through a two-hour intense warm-up regime before every show, just to get himself in the zone. One very, very important factor to Zayn’s warm-up, of course is Mary Jane herself. In fact I’m presenting it to him now for some fantastic singing.”

He then passes the joint to Malik.

Later in the video, Tomlinson makes another joke directed at a police officer escorting the singers to their show.

“One nil b***h! Look at this b***h... He’s having a look. He’s thinking. I’m sure I can smell an illegal substance in there. And he’s hit the nail on the head,” he says. During the video, Malik, Tomlinson and the crew members converse about some fairly random topics, including tour merchandise, Kid Rock’s latest book and chicken.

The video may come as a shock to fans of the band, which has kept an extremely clean image since shooting to fame on “The X-Factor” in 2010. Speaking to MailOnline a spokesman for the band said legal action is being taken regarding the release of the video. “The matter is now in the hands of our lawyers,” said the spokesman.
