“Orange is the New Black” star Samira Wiley recently tied the knot with Lauren Morelli.

According to Martha Stewart Weddings, the couple tied the knot in Palm Springs, and their union was attended by their closest family members and friends. The ceremony was officiated by Wiley’s parents who are both supportive of their daughter. Wiley and Morelli both wore ensembles designed by Christian Siriano. The non-traditional event featured a confetti-themed bash and the couple’s favorite Pillsbury Funfetti cake.

Morelli was the one who asked Wiley to marry her in October, and her proposal also took place in Palm Springs. The “Orange is the New Black” writer gave Wiley a yellow-gold engagement ring featuring an asscher-cut diamond. Morelli was previously married to her ex-husband, Stephen Basilone, for a few years before she realized that she is gay.

While writing the script for “Orange is the New Black,” Morelli realized that she is also attracted to women. She also penned a lengthy essay detailing what it was like coming to terms with her sexuality five years ago.

“I realized I was gay in fall 2012, one of my first days on set. Accordingly, I was nervous about the first love scene I’d written for Alex and Piper. I loved writing it, I loved watching a tenderness emerge in their relationship where passion always seemed to be the ruling principle, but by that time, I was so deep in my own self-doubt that I constantly felt like a fraud,” she wrote.

Morelli continued by saying that everything she experienced as an openly gay person can be seen on the hit Netflix series. “I fell in love with a woman, and I watched my life play out on screen. And now, as we are gearing up for the release of Season 2, it feels liberating and appropriate to live my life in front of you,” she concluded.
