“The Originals” Season 4 wrapped up in a familiar location. Hayley went to Mystic Falls to drop Hope off at the Salvatore Boarding School for the Young and Gifted. It’s the educational facility for supernatural children that Caroline and Alaric started in the series finale of “The Vampire Diaries.” Alaric appeared in the Season 4 finale of “The Originals,” and fans think that Caroline could appear in Season 5.

Last time viewers saw Candice King’s blonde vampire, she was recently widowed and received a very generous donation from Klaus (Joseph Morgan) for the new school. He wrote a letter to her that made Klaroline shippers swoon. “I do look forward to thanking you in person someday… However long it takes,” the letter read.

After the finale aired in March, Plec explained that Klaus and Caroline couldn’t meet in the last “Vampire Diaries” episode because of the conflicting timelines.

“Obviously our timelines did not match up, so Caroline and Klaus are not coming face-to-face in this season,” she told the Hollywood Reporter. “That being said, we do have crossover elements in the upcoming season of ‘The Originals’ that’s about to start airing, and it all brings it back to what I see as a future for either ‘The Originals’ or another piece of the franchise to launch off of the end of ‘The Originals.’ So I look forward to being able to play around in that sandbox and see if I can make something of it.”

While Plec noted that she intentionally left Caroline’s storyline a little open ended, she wouldn’t confirm that “Originals” fans would see the perky vampire. “The doors were not left open unintentionally. They’re open with a hope, not a promise,” Plec told Entertainment Weekly.

Hope will be in her late teens in “The Originals” Season 5, TVLine reports. With that kind of time jump, it certainly seems like enough time for Klaus and Caroline to mourn their recently deceased loved ones. It seems like Klaroline shippers are highly aware of that. They’ve been tweeting about their excitement, hopes and expectations for a reunion since the finale aired Friday.

It’s worth noting that not all fans are happy about this idea. There are fans in the “Vampire Diaries” and “Originals” fandoms who passionately hate the idea of Klaus and Caroline getting together just as much as other viewers love it.

However, Klaus and Caroline’s reunion isn’t a sure thing. Aside from the fact that Candice King has not announced her return, there’s also the matter of Klaus leaving his family. He and his siblings each have part of the Hollow inside of them, but that means they cannot come into contact with each other. If they did, it would make the Hollow stronger, and Klaus wouldn’t want to bring the Hollow near Hope again after her possession.

Fans will have to tune in to “The Originals” Season 5 to see what, if anything, is in store for Caroline and Klaus. The CW will once again bring back the series midseason, so an exact premiere date has yet to be announced.
