Kelly (Adrianne Palicki) tries to convince Ed (Seth MacFarlane) to consider John (J. Lee) for a key leadership position on the ship in Season 1, episode 11 of “The Orville.” Fox/Michael Becker

Commander Kelly Grayson finds out that Lt. John LaMarr is not being completely true to everyone on the ship in the next episode of “The Orville.”

According to the synopsis for Season 1, episode 11 of the Fox series, Kelly (Adrianne Palicki) discovers that John (J. Lee) is smarter than he lets on. So, she tries to convince Captain Ed Mercer (Seth MacFarlane) to consider John for a key leadership position after The Orville gets damaged by a mysterious spatial anomaly that causes harrowing effects to all living things on board the ship.

While the episode is seemingly poised to become another great installment of the space dramedy, fans have to wait until next week to see whether Ed will grant Kelly’s request, as no new episode of “The Orville” will air this week. Instead, Season 1, episode 11, titled “New Dimensions,” is scheduled to air on Thursday, Nov. 30 at 9 p.m. EST on Fox.

Meanwhile, the trailer for the episode confirms that Season 1 of “The Orville” will only have 12 episodes as opposed to the original episode order of 13.

The shortened freshman run of the Seth MacFarlane-created series was first revealed by TV Guide, which also reported that the supposed 13th hour of the season will be added to the already renewed Season 2 of the series — a similar move the Fox took during the second season of “Lucifer.” Following the changes made to “The Orville’s” Season 1 episode order, the season finale will now air on Thursday, Dec. 7.

Since the series was already picked up for another season, TV Guide reported that the show’s reduced Season 1 episode order is likely due to scheduling. The news outlet noted that the network probably wanted to air the entire season before the year ends rather than leave a few episodes for the new year.

Aside from MacFarlane, Palicki and Lee, “The Orville” also stars Penny Johnson Jerald as Dr. Claire Finn; Scott Grimes as Lt. Gordon Malloy; Peter Macon as Lt. Commander Bortus; Halston Sage as Lt. Alara Kitan; and Mark Jackson as Isaac.
