Oscar Fuller has been sentenced to one year in prison for punching a woman during a dispute over a New York City parking space.

Fuller received the maximum punishment for the misdemeanor assault, which ended up causing Lana Rosas serious brain damage.

The 36-year-old electrician acknowledged hitting Rosas in the face during their February 2011 confrontation in downtown Manhattan, and said that he's sorry for what he described as an altercation that went the wrong way.

According to the New York Post, Rosas was holding the spot for her boyfriend when Fuller drove up and started screaming at the petite Bronx woman.

After proclaiming that she was saving the spot for her boyfriend, Fuller exited the vehicle and punched [her] in the face with so much force that the woman flew off her feet, according to court papers obtained by the Post.

She was on a date with the man she loves, and this horrific thing happen to her, Rosas' mother told the Post after the incident.

Fuller was eventually detained after he sped from the scene. Police tracked him by using his license plate number and two witnesses, who picked his mug from a photo array.

The electrician, a father of two, was charged with felony assault, before he released a statement saying that he would never intend to physically hurt a woman.

Despite Fuller's extensive arrest record dating to 1994, his lawyer and neighbors described him to the newspaper as a helpful family man.

He is a beautiful father of a 4-year-old son and a 10-year-old daughter, his defense lawyer, Tom Kenniff, said. He's a churchgoing man.
