A big explosion hit several government buildings in Oslo, the capital of Norway. Damaged buildings include one containing Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg’s office and a building from the oil ministry.

The massive blast caused a plume of smoke to float above the city’s center, a fire in one of the building, and littered the street with debris. Reuters reported that at least 8 people have been injured.

The explosion was believed to be caused by a car bomb, judging by a burnt car nearby and witness reports. The blast happened at 3:30 pm local time.

It’s unclear who perpetrated the attack at this point. However, Norway was threatened in the past by Al-Qaeda and Europe in general was recently threatened by Libya strongman Muammar Gaddafi.

“It exploded -- it must have been a bomb. people ran in panic and ran. I counted at least 10 injured people,” witness Kjersti Vedun told Reuters.
