Find out how to score a free Bloomin' Onion from Outback Steakhouse. Outback Steakhouse

The LSU Tigers' win at the Outback Bowl on New Year’s Day turned into a win for fans of Outback Steakhouse’s Bloomin’ Onion too, as the game-sponsoring restaurant chain decided to give out the fried onion treats for free on Jan. 2 in honor of LSU’s victory.

In a game where the offenses struggled, No. 14 LSU defeated the Iowa Hawkeyes 21-14 in the Outback Bowl, which was played New Year’s Day at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Fla. LSU running back Jeremy Hill led the Tigers offense with 216 yards and a pair of touchdowns.

To drum up publicity for the game, Outback Steakhouse dubbed LSU “Team Bloomin’ Onion” while the Hawkeyes were nicknamed “Team Coconut Shrimp.” If Iowa had won the game, there would have been free coconut shrimp on the house at Outback Steakhouse on Thursday.

But since the Tigers prevailed in the Outback Bowl, the chain is giving away free Bloomin’ Onions – Outback’s most renowned dish – on Jan. 2. The only requirement for getting your free Bloomin’ Onion is to mention “Outback Bowl” to your server. The free appetizer is available only to dine-in Outback Steakhouse patrons.
