Starz handed over the official “Outlander” Instagram account to their cast and crew on Monday, and the results reveal that the cast is definitely having fun when the cameras stop rolling. The behind-the-scenes photos show the actors keeping the mood light between takes while “Outlander” Season 3 films in South Africa.

Sam Heughan and Caitriona Balfe are currently filming the portion of Jamie and Claire’s story that takes place on the boat to the Jamaica. The two seemed to be all smiles in their pictures together. Heughan also revealed that he likes to keep active by riding a bike around the Cape Town set.

The “Outlander” Season 3 set also had a very important visitor: author Diana Gabaldon. The writer had been teasing her trip on Twitter, and she finally shared a selfie with Heughan (whom she calls Sheugs) and Balfe.

Meanwhile, the official “Outlander” Instagram revealed a video message she recorded with the Jamie and Claire actors. She noted that they weren’t exactly dressed for the South African weather. The actors were still in their heavy wool outfits. “I see you’re dressed very appropriately for the season here,” Gabaldon quipped.

“Outlander” Season 3 is based Gabaldon’s “Voyager” novel, but as with all adaptations, there will be a few changes made. Frank’s (Tobias Menzies) story is expanded, and the opening scene will be different. Instead of starting with Jamie having trouble remembering the Battle of Culloden, the Season 3 premiere will kick off on the battlefield.

“It just felt like for the TV show, we’ve been promising this for a while and it just felt like we should have something,” showrunner Ronald D. Moore told Entertainment Weekly in September. “We should give the audience some sense of what happened on that moor.”

“Outlander” Season 3 premieres in September on Starz.
