Outlander Culloden
Sam Heughan said the Battle of Culloden scenes look “spectacular” in “Outlander” Season 3. Starz

Sam Heughan has plenty to look forward to. The Scottish actor recently became the brand ambassador for Barbour clothing, and he’s filming a new season of “Outlander.” Understandably, he’s pretty enthusiastic about filming certain scenes.

The 36-year-old was recently asked what he was most excited to shoot in Season 3 of the Starz time travel drama. “Jamie’s storyline is really exciting,” Heughan told Harper’s Bazaar. “He has to go through a lot before him and Claire are reunited, so I guess being reunited with his true love, his wife.”

Jamie (Heughan) and Claire (Caitriona Balfe) were separated at the end of Season 2 when Claire was sent back to her time. After 20 years, she learns that Jamie didn’t die at Culloden after all, and she’ll be determined to get back. Obviously, they’ll reunite, but as previously reported, showrunner Ronald D. Moore won’t reveal exactly when they’ll be together again.

Of course, Heughan, who has completed filming the first two Season 3 episodes, isn’t just looking forward to the romantic scenes. He’s also happy to finally film the oft-discussed Battle of Culloden. “This season is honestly really strong, already feels that we’ve shot some really exciting stuff,” Heughan mentioned. “I’m trying to talk around spoilers and not give anything away, but I mean Culloden, we’ve talked about it a lot. We all know that we’ve been shooting that. It looks spectacular. There’s some great stuff in this book.”

Starz released a photo of him at the Battle of Culloden (below), but fans are more interested in what Jamie will look like in the future. The drama hasn’t revealed how Jamie will be aged.

It doesn’t look like Heughan will be ditching the kilt any time soon, though. Heughan also mentioned the rigorous filming schedule of “Outlander.” He noted that he hasn’t been able to schedule any of the films he has been offered due to the TV show. He explained that they’ll be filming Season 3 through the end of May, but it’s the end of shooting that he is anxiously awaiting. “We’ll be finishing in South Africa, which is pretty awesome. So we’re going to be shooting there,” he said.

It seems like “Outlander” is taking a cue from another Starz series, “Black Sails.” The pirate drama uses Cape Town to double as the Bahamas. It appears “Outlander” will have the South African town stand in for Jamaica when Jamie and Claire head off on a big voyage.

“Outlander” Season 3 does not yet have a premiere date.
