“Outlander” fans can rest easy knowing that the series will be around for years to come. Starz announced the time-travel drama has been renewed for Season 3 and Season 4.

The announcement was made Wednesday, an important date for “Outlander” fans, as Starz CEO Chris Albrecht explained in a statement. “On this 25th anniversary of the publication of the first book in the U.S., we are thrilled and honored to be able to continue the story that began with author Diana Gabaldon, and is brought to life by the incredibly talented Ronald D. Moore,” Albrecht said. “There are no better storytellers for ‘Outlander’ than this team, both in front and behind the camera.”

The drama’s producers will continue to follow the pattern of adapting one book per season. Gabaldon currently has eight novels in her “Outlander” series. “Voyager” will be the basis for Season 3, and “Drums of Autumn” will be the foundation for Season 4.

“Outlander” focuses on the couple Jamie and Claire, played by Sam Heughan and Caitriona Balfe, respectively. The actors appeared pleased to learn that they would be employed for years to come.

Heughan joked that he wasn’t sure Jamie and Claire would still be around in Season 4.

A renewal before the current season has even concluded may surprise some, and the fact it was picked up for not one but two seasons might also raise a few eyebrows. But author Gabaldon wasn’t at all shocked by the two-season commitment.

“Outlander” Season 2 airs on Starz Saturdays at 9 p.m. EDT.
