You might have been too busy drooling over Overwatch’s lunar gorilla rampage to notice that Season 5 of Competitive Play starts this week. The fourth season of Blizzard’s insane shooter just ended, but it seems like the Overwatch team wants to give players as little downtime as possible.

Overwatch Season 5 will start at 8 p.m. EDT on May 31, according to Game Informer. This isn’t a guarantee, Blizzard has been known to release important patches whenever they see fit.

If you just bought the new Game Of The Year edition and are new to Overwatch Competitive Play, here’s some stuff you really need to know.

  • Each season lasts around three months; that’s all the time you get before the servers reset and your SR disappears.

  • After reaching level 25 on an account, you have to play 10 promotional games before being put into a rank. These games are extremely important, but it’s not the end of the world if you lose. Overwatch’s game designers have made sure that you gain a significant amount of SR when winning games after your promos. If you end up in Silver and gain 50+ points per win, you’ll be in a better rank in no time.

  • When playing your ten promotional games, keep in mind that Blizzard does take into account your last season’s rank when seeding you. If you and a buddy both win all 10 games, but he ended in Gold and you were in Silver, chances are he’s going to get more SR than you.

  • Participating in CP nets you a fancy icon and spray, this time Numbani-themed. If you want to show off how well (or poorly) you placed in a season, there’s no better way than dropping a spray directly over the corpse of an enemy you just vanquished. Remember, there are no bad manners in a world where evil robots started World War III.

  • Getting into a higher rank gives you more CP when the season is over, which can be used for buying golden guns. Here’s the breakdown of what rank you need to get for that bombastic McCree pistol you’ve had your eye on:

SR 1-1499 (Bronze): 100 CP

SR 1500-1999 (Silver): 200 CP

SR 2000-2499 (Gold): 400 CP

SR 2500-2999 (Platinum): 800 CP

SR 3000-3499 (Diamond): 1200 CP

SR 3500-3999 (Master): 2000 CP

SR 4000-5000 (Grandmaster): 3000 CP

  • If you are good enough to end up in the Top 500 of all players in the world, congratulations! If my jealous nod of approval isn’t enough for you, Blizzard also gives the best Overwatch marksmen a special spray and icon that moves. I’ve already accepted the fact that I’ll never own one of these cosmetics, so do it for me kid!

  • It’s unclear if Blizzard is going to shake things up for Season 5 or if nothing is changing from previous seasons.

Tilting is an inevitable part of playing any competitive game, and Overwatch is no different. Make sure to take a break after losing a couple of games in a row, there’s no point in losing all your hard-earned SR just because a bunch of 12-year-olds on their headsets drove you into a primal rage.
