Pan African Resources Plc said Monday it has begun cold commissioning of a chrome tailings retreatment plant at a platinum mine.

The $13 million facility is expected to be on stream by yearend, the Johannesburg, South Africa, company said.

The Phoenix mine, located in South Africa's North West Province, is expected to produce 211 000 ounces of precious metals over 17 years.

Most of the production will be platinum, 57 percent, and palladium will account for 27 percent of production. The rest will be rhodium and gold.
