Panasonic Corp will open up for free its technology for Internet-enabled televisions as it looks to create a rival group to the Sony Corp and Google Inc alliance, the Nikkei reported.

Sony unveiled its Internet televisions, which use the Google platform, last October.

Panasonic will approach TV manufacturers in Japan, China and Taiwan about using its Ajax-CE software, which helps display online content on TV screens, the business daily said.

Online functions come standard in Panasonic TVs sold domestically, and around 20 percent of sets marketed in Europe and the U.S. are Net-enabled, the paper added.
