Sarah Burton, legendary designer Alexander McQueen's right-hand woman, showed off her brilliant spring/summer 2012 women's ready-to-wear collection at the Paris Fashion Week last week.

Burton, who hails from Britain, succeeded McQueen as creative designer and has been tasked with taking both the McQueen brand and its fortunes forward, after his untimely death in 2010. Although the ingenuity of McQueen's virtuoso creations will always remain unmatched, yet another brilliant display by Burton left the audience awestruck. If nothing else, Burton has more than justified the time spent learning from McQueen. She completely justified her apprenticeship to the legendary fashion designer.

This is a collection about excess, said Burton before the show, according to a report in The Guardian. Having said that, she went to display a range of bold and beautiful creations for women. The delicate masks, exquisite designs, antique gold/silver pearl-adorned masterpieces and the see-through chiffon creations were all brilliant and tantalizing.

The inspiration behind the collection, according to Burton, was women as objects of desire.

It's an exploration of ideals of beauty at their most extreme. We go to such lengths to adorn ourselves that we almost become our clothes or are taken over by them, said Burton, in a report by The New York Times.
