Patrick Schwarzenegger may just be Hollywood’s next big thing. The 21-year-old has officially landed his first leading role in a young adult film.

Schwarzenegger has been cast as the leading man in “Midnight Sun,” a young adult film being directed by Scott Speer. This will be the first major role for Miley Cyrus’ ex-beau, although he has previously made appearances in films like, “The Benchwarmers,” and “Grown Ups 2.” Bella Thorne, who will play the female lead in the film, shared the good news with fans and followers on Instagram. The 17-year-old shared a screen grab of a Deadline article about the film, writing that she was “proud” to be working on this project with both Schwarzenegger and Speer. Maria Shriver further confirmed the exciting news, tweeting about how excited she was for her son.

“Midnight Sun” is based on a 2006 Japanese film which told the story of a 17-year-old girl suffering from a rare condition. Her skin is sensitive to sunlight -- so much so that even slight exposure could cost her her life. Somewhere along the way she falls in love with a boy who changes her life for the better. The script is being written by Eric Kirsten. Filming has been set for September.

In addition to his budding acting career, Schwarzenegger is a model, student and restaurateur. He has shot several successful ad campaigns for Tom Ford and Hudson Jeans. He has also appeared in V Man, Interview Magazine, Details Magazine and more. He is currently enrolled at UCLA. As if that wasn't impressive enough, the young son of former California Governer Arnold Schwarzenegger is also the owner of Blaze Pizza, a restaurant franchise which currently has more than 60 chains open for business according to a post on his Instagram page.

Schwarzenegger has yet to say much about his breakout role. He has, however, retweeted both his mother and Thorne’s messages about “Midnight Sun.”
