Born in England in 1940 Sir Patrick Stewart had humble beginnings and started his acting career in the Theater. He said that “all my life, all I wanted was to be on the stage”. But, one television role in 1987 would change his career forever. That role was that of Captain Jean-Luc Picard in ‘Star Trek: The Next Generation’.

Sir Patrick Stewart was on hand in NYC on December 4th as he was inducted into Gray Line New York’s prestigious ‘Ride of Fame’. There, he spoke about his first love: the theater, the new X-Men movie ‘Days of Future Past’, and even told us what his spirit animal is.

His career as a professional actor was solidified after spending many years with the Royal Shakespeare Company, various stage productions, and television appearances. Then, Hollywood called and his fate as a television icon was sealed, as he was about to become a part of a television show that became a cultural game-changer.

Many actors talk about that defining moment in their careers, that one job that made them a star, and for Sir Patrick Stewart that was in 1987 when he was offered the role of Captain Jean-Luc Picard in ‘Star-Trek: The Next Generation’.

Stewart revealed that he will be forever grateful for the role that put him on the map, despite the fact that the latex costumes he wore every day for almost 10 years were “awful”, at least at first.

Now at 73 Sir Patrick Stewart calls Brooklyn, New York his home, with his wife Sunny Ozell whom he married at Lake Tahoe, Nevada on September 7th of this year. Who better to marry the two then his good friend and X-Men co-star Sir Ian McKellen?

In New York, Stewart is back on the stag starring in ‘Waiting for Godot' and 'No Man's Land' alongside his friend and co-star Ian McKellen. But we asked what it would take for the Shakespearean actor to return to role on ‘Star Trek: The Next Generation’.

The well-rounded star was not opposed to the idea, and revealed he would be interested in reprising the role of Captain Jean-Luc Picard if there was a ‘very good and serious’ reason for getting back into the space suit.

Stewart has had an impressive resume of acting roles for stage, television and the big screen. Probably one of his biggest roles was Charles Xavier in the hugely successful ‘X-Men’ franchise. The latest installment of the films, ‘X-Men: Days Of Future Past’ is due to hit theaters in May 2014 here in the US.
