Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson will soon urge Indian officials not to move forward with a planned pipeline project that would bring Iranian natural gas to India, a senior Treasury official said on Thursday.

"We're hoping that India won't move forward on this," U.S. Treasury Undersecretary for International Affairs David McCormick told a news briefing ahead of a four-day trip by Paulson to India.

"We think at a time when the world should be imposing greater discipline on its interactions with (Iranian) companies and financial institutions and the Iranian government more broadly, that this is not the right path forward."
