Tommy Shelby Peaky Blinders
Tommy Shelby (Cillian Murphy) will choose between his love interests in the Season 3 premiere of "Peaky Blinders." BBC Two

Tommy Shelby (Cillian Murphy) has a big decision to make when Season 3 of “Peaky Blinders” premieres. When viewers last left off, the gangster bad boy was torn between two women – Grace Burgess (Annabelle Wallis) and May Carleton (Charlotte Riley). He didn’t choose which woman he wanted to pursue a relationship with in the Season 2 finale, but he won’t be able to put it off when the BBC Two series returns.

During an interview with Deadline, series creator Steven Knight revealed that fans will find out who Tommy chooses to be with almost immediately.

“It is going to be resolved in the opening setup,” Knight confirmed.

For those who don’t remember, Grace was Tommy’s main love interest in Season 1. She began working at the pub owned by the Shelby family and fell in love with Tommy … even though she was undercover for Inspector Campbell (Sam Neill). Despite their mutual attraction, the two parted ways after Season 1 when Grace’s secret came out. “Peaky Blinders” fans didn’t get to see a lot of Grace in Season 2 because she married a man and moved to the United States. However, a visit with Tommy resulted in a steamy hookup … and pregnancy.

The pregnancy bombshell was revealed in the Season 2 finale. But of course there were other complications -- like Tommy’s other love interest, May. May, a widow, began working for Tommy as his horse trainer. She developed feelings for Tommy but knew that he wasn’t over his first love. May never expected Grace to come back into the picture. And now that Grace is pregnant, there is a war over who gets Tommy Shelby.

Grace and May came face-to-face in the Season 2 finale while waiting for Tommy after the race. Tommy promised Grace that he’d come talk with her about the baby and what they should do after the race was over. However, Tommy never showed up. Instead, Grace had to talk to May. The horse trainer explained that Tommy was at the race to obtain all the gambling licenses. The Peaky Blinders burned all the licenses at the track, meaning that all the bookies had to reapply. But May has influence over the board and revealed to Grace that all the applications would be denied and allocated to Tommy’s bookies.

“I’ll make sure of it,” she told Grace.

Grace understood what May was getting at and fired back that “there is business, and then there is love.” But May doesn’t see that … especially with Tommy.
