Penelope Cruz, the Oscar-winning Spanish born film star and her husband Javier Bardem have welcomed their first child on Tuesday in Los Angeles.

Sources close to the family have confirmed the birth to Spanish newspaper El Pais , but they have yet not revealed whether it is a boy or a girl. Hellomagazine.com has reported that it is a boy, but the couple’s sources have refused to confirm the news.

Penelope Cruz, 36 won her Oscar in 2009 for Woody Alllen’s Vicky Cristina Barcelona and Bardem, 41, won it for best supporting role in the 2008 film No Country for Old Men. They got married in July last year in the Bahamas.

Penelope was spotted with her baby bump on the sets of Pirates of the Carribean: On stranger Tides in September.
