Lifetime’s remake of “Flowers in the Attic” was a huge success when it aired in January, and fortunately fans of V.C. Andrews’ gothic novel won’t have to wait too much longer for the second installment. The network has announced that the sequel, “Petals on the Wind,” will premiere on May 26.

The release date announcement for the movie was reported by Entertainment Weekly, which also acquired the first photos from the film. Fans can get a sneak peek at new cast members Rose McIver and Wyatt Nash, who took over the roles of Cathy and Christopher Dollanganger from “Flowers” stars Kiernan Shipka and Mason Dye. The grownup siblings can be seen alongside Heather Graham, who will be reprising her role as the Dollanganger matriarch, Corrine.

In a second image obtained by EW, “Petals on the Wind” fans can also see McIver’s Cathy decked out in her dancing gear alongside her new love interest, Julian (Will Kemp). For those unfamiliar with Andrews’ series, Julian is a major character introduced in “Petals on the Wind.” Cathy meets Julian, a fellow dancer, after her new legal guardian (and lover), Paul, sends her to ballet school in New York. A series of events eventually leads Cathy and Julian to wed, but married life is anything but bliss for Cathy. Julian turns out to be an abusive and jealous husband who prohibits his wife from visiting her brother or her former legal guardian.

Lifetime’s version of the sequel will pick up 10 years after Cathy, Chris and Carrie managed to escape Foxworth Hall. Ellen Burstyn will be returning to the sequel as the Dollanganger children’s grandmother, Olivia, and Dylan Bruce will also be back as Bart, Corinne’s new husband.

“Petals on the Wind” will be premiering on Lifetime on Monday, May 26 at 8 p.m. EDT. Will you be watching? Let us know in the comments section or tweet your thoughts to @AmandaTVScoop.
