Photographer Fight

The New England Patriots and Denver Broncos engaged in an epic battle on Sunday, but the night’s biggest skirmish occurred between a pair of photographers.

The incident occurred moments after the Patriots’ come-from-behind victory over the Broncos on Sunday night. As opposing quarterbacks Peyton Manning and Tom Brady cut their way through the postgame bedlam to shake hands, a credentialed photographer appeared to throw a punch at another cameraman -- and NBC captured the entire incident on live television.

While the reasons behind the cameraman fight are not quite clear, it’s safe to assume that the incident was work-related. The photographer who threw the punch seemed to think that the other photographer had gotten in his way while he tried to film Manning.

While the photographer fight may seem a bit ridiculous, consider the conditions that each man dealt with during Sunday night’s game. Throughout the night, the would-be brawlers endured 20 mile-per-hour winds and near-freezing temperatures at Gillette Stadium, all while attempting to perform precise camerawork. By the time of the post-game handshakes, both men had likely reached their breaking point.

The photographer fight was a minor footnote for an otherwise excellent night of football. The Broncos dominated the game’s first half, forcing a trio of fumbles and jumping out to a 24-0 lead. However, Brady led a furious comeback, tossing three second-half touchdowns and bringing the Patriots back into contention. Eventually, the Patriots prevailed in overtime, 34-31.
