A sports loss proved too much for some fans of the Vancouver Canucks NHL team.

After losing the deciding game of the Stanley Cup Finals last night, angry Canucks fans overturned and burned cars and smashed shop windows in downtown Vancouver. Rioters looted the department store The Bay, carrying off clothes and cosmetics.

No fatalities were reported but several were injured, including at least one person wearing a Boston Bruins jersey.

Riot police wielding truncheons used tear gas and flash-bang grenades to disperse the crowd.

Canucks fans also rioted in 1994 after the hockey team's loss to the New York Rangers in Game 7 of the Stanley Cup.
