American Actors Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, a Goodwill Ambassador of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), visited Iraqi refugees in Syria, in a suburb in southern Damascus on October 2, 2009.

Jolie returned to the city -which she had visited in 2007- to call the international community to not forget the hundreds of thousands of Iraqi refugees who remain in exile urging help and support for them.

Most Iraqi refugees cannot return to Iraq in view of the severe trauma they experienced there, the uncertainty linked to the coming Iraqi elections, the security issues and the lack of basic services, Jolie said, according to UNHCR.
