Pierce Brosnan
Who knew that James Bond was from Drogheda, Ireland? Though Daniel Craig has taken his place, Pierce Brosnan is still considered one of the hottest 007s of all time. Reuters

Pierce Brosnan’s daughter Charlotte died on Friday at the age of 41 after a long battle with ovarian cancer, People magazine reported Monday. She suffered for three years from the disease, which also claimed her mother and grandmother.

Charlotte passed away in London, leaving behind her husband Alex Smith and their two children, a 14-year-old daughter and an 8 year-old-son.

"On June 28 at 2 p.m. my darling daughter Charlotte Emily passed on to eternal life, having succumbed to ovarian cancer," Brosnan, 60, told People. "She was surrounded by her husband Alex, children Isabella and Lucas and brothers Christopher and Sean."

"Charlotte fought her cancer with grace and humanity, courage and dignity. Our hearts are heavy with the loss of our beautiful dear girl. We pray for her and that the cure for this wretched disease will be close at hand soon," the actor added. "We thank everyone for their heartfelt condolences."

According to People, Cassandra Harris, Charlotte’s mother, also died of ovarian cancer in 1991. Brosnan is now remarried to Keely Shaye Smith. The magazine added that Harris’ mother passed away from the same disease.

Angelina Jolie recently had a double mastectomy after finding out she had a mutated BRCA1 gene, which gave her an increased change of getting breast cancer. Her mother carried the gene and died from ovarian cancer at a relatively young age, and it seems possible that the women in Charlotte's family could have also carried the faulty gene.

Brosnan, who is best known for portraying sophisticated special agent James Bond, has a bunch of new movies coming out, including “Love Punch,” “A Long Way Down” and “November Man.”
