Universal Pictures announced Monday that “Pitch Perfect 3” will hit the big screen on the July 21, 2017, and fans of the Barden Bellas are already looking forward to the third installment of the hugely popular “Pitch Perfect" series.
Universal greenlighted “Pitch Perfect 3” after the successful opening of “Pitch Perfect 2” last month, slotting the film for a July 2017 release, reported E! News. Anna Kendrick and Rebel Wilson have both confirmed that they will return for the third installment of the movie, with Kendrick taking to Instagram today to post a selfie while holding up three fingers.
Rebel Wilson’s tweet also confirmed the movie’s release. "I know I spilt the beans a little while ago," she wrote. "[But] at least now it's OFFICIAL!! PITCH PERFECT 3, July 21, 2017!!! Sing 'ahhhhh' on 3 pitches x."
“Pitch Perfect 2” director Elizabeth Banks also tweeted “It’s on,” but it hasn't been announced whether she will reprise her role as a cappella judge and commentator Gail or if she will direct the new film. News has been circulating that Banks may potentially have her hands full, as she is slated to do another directorial project with Universal Studios. According to Deadline, Banks is in talks with the studio to direct the movie adaptation of Victoria Aveyard’s young adult novel, “Red Queen."
Although it is still unclear whether Banks will return to the director’s chair, she -- along with Paul Brooks of Gold Circle Entertainment and Max Handelman of Brownstone Productions -- is signed on to produce “Pitch Perfect 3,” stated The Hollywood Reporter. Writer Kay Cannon, who penned the first two installments, is also in talks to write the third film.
The “Pitch Perfect” movie franchise has been a surefire hit on the big screen, with the first movie earning $115.4 million worldwide. Pitch Perfect 2 already surpassed ticket sales of the first installment, with earnings at $259.7 million worldwide to date.
