Villanova put up a strong fight, but in the end, the Pittsburgh was just too much for the Wildcats in a 57-54 win at The Pavilion.

With the clock winding down to 12.5, Jay Wright called a time out to draw up a play. Dominic Cheek's 3-point shot was wide to the left, and Maalik's Wayns's shot went in, but the ball was still in his hands at the buzzer.

The Panthers' Brad Wanamaker led all scorers with 21 points on 8-of-15 shooting. Pittsburgh led by 10 with 4:16 remaining, but that's when the Wildcats mounted their comeback. Villanova closed within three inside the final minute, but Jamie Dixon's fourth-ranked squad found a way to hold on.

Villanova was looking to rebound from a heartbreaking loss to Rutgers Wednesday when Jonathan Mitchell completed a four-point play at the end of regulation to drop the Wildcats, 77-76.
