Google’s Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL smartphones won’t go official until next week on Oct. 4, but a new leak might have already given revealed the full spec sheet of the new handsets.

Android Authority has listed down the full specs for the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL. The website claims that it got the new information on Google’s new handsets from an “exclusive source.” The site also claims that it was able to verify the information independently using an internal document.

Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL Similarities

Both the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL will be powered by the Snapdragon 835 System on Chip. Earlier reports claimed that both device would be outfitted with a slightly faster Snapdragon 836 processor, but that rumor has already been shut down.

Both of Google’s new Pixel 2 smartphones will be available in two storage options: 64GB and 128GB. Android Authority’s source claims that purchasing either model will also grant users unlimited Google Cloud storage until 2023. It wasn’t made clear if this was only for photos and videos like last year, but the good news is that consumers won’t have to worry too much about on-board storage in either of the new Pixel 2 smartphones.

The Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL will both have the same set of front-facing and rear cameras. The source claims that Google will be calling these as “Pixel Cameras.” As previous leaks and rumors correctly predicted, neither models will have dual-camera setups. Both will feature one back camera and one front camera. No information was given on the megapixel count on the cameras, but the source did say that both models will have the same Google Imaging Chip and the cameras will feature optical image stabilization (OIS).

The Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL are said to be IP67 water and dust resistant. This is the same waterproof rating that Apple’s iPhone 7 and iPhone 8 have. An IP67 rating means that a device can withstand being submerged in 3.3 feet (1 meter) of water for up to 30 minutes.

Both models will also ditch the 3.5mm headphone jack in favor of a single USB Type-C port. The source claims that only certain markets will get USB-C headphones in the box, but this information hasn’t actually been verified yet. Although this might disappoint a lot of consumers, there’s a silver lining: both models will feature dual stereo speakers.

The Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL will also have the squeezable frame feature that will be called Active Edge. This feature is similar to the HTC U11’s Edge Sense. IBT previously reported that squeezing the Pixel 2’s frame will actually trigger Google Assistant. Both phones will also include an E-SIM slot, which allows users to connect to different networks without replacing the SIM card. Lastly, both will have Gorilla Glass 5.

Few Key Differences

Although both phones share a lot in common in terms of specs, the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL are still quite different in some aspects. First, the Pixel 2 will feature a Full HD 1080p display with thick top and bottom bezels, while the Pixel 2 XL will have very slim bezels and a quad HD 1440p display with wide color gamut.

Exact screen sizes weren’t given, but it’s already certain that the XL model will be bigger. With the XL model having slimmer bezels, the source claims that it will have a screen to body ratio between 80 and 85 percent. If this is true, then the Pixel 2 XL’s design up front will likely look similar to the Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus. This description also matches Android Police's render of the smartphone from July.

Since the Pixel 2 smartphones will have different sizes, the two will have different battery capacities. The Pixel 2 is said to have a 2,700mAh battery, while a larger 3,520mAh will power the Pixel 2 XL.
