The recent hack of internal emails from Sony continues to unfold, with the hackers now revealing potential projects and ideas for film franchises. The latest leak of stolen information has to do with the “Ghostbusters” franchise, which the studio has already started retooling for the modern age.

It was announced earlier this year that filmmaker Paul Feig would co-write and direct an all-female reboot of the iconic 1980s comedy. However, with the popular Bill Murray-led comedy at the forefront of everyone’s mind, Channing Tatum saw an opportunity to give him and his actor friend, Chris Pratt, a starring vehicle together.

According to The Daily Beast, new leaked emails show that the “22 Jump Street” actor emailed Sony executive Amy Pascal in October to discuss the possibility of a spinoff to Feig’s movie starring Tatum and his “10 Years” co-star.

“Let us show the world The DarkSide and let us fight it with all the glory and epicness of a HUGE BATMAN BEGINS MOVIE. I know we can make this a huge franchise,” Tatum reportedly wrote. “Fun adventure craziness. COME OONNNN!!!”

While Tatum’s excited e-mail is hardly serious evidence that a “Ghostbusters” reboot/spinoff is actually in the works, an e-mail sent by the co-president of production for Columbia Pictures, Hannah Minghella, to Pascal the following day, does give the idea a bit more legitimacy.

She said that the Russo brothers, known for “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” and the upcoming projects “Captain America: The Civil War,” “Avengers: Infinity War, Part 1” and “The Avengers: Infinity War, Part 2,” were into Channing's idea. The two would produce the film, not direct it, with the blessing of Feig, who is in charge of the franchise’s all girl project.

Reportedly, any “Ghostbusters” vehicle involving the male celebrity duo would be done in tandem with Feig’s project, set in the same universe.

“They want to make it simultaneously super scary while also super funny. They love the idea that they are mortal heroes who are believers in the paranormal and the only people who can defend mankind from a paranormal threat,” Minghella said.

It’s worth mentioning that producing two remakes of such a beloved classic at the same time would be a big risk for the studio being that the main reason for the idea simply seems to be that Tatum and Pratt want to star in a movie together. However, there is always that chance that Tatum's plan could become a reality. His success in “22 Jump Street” and “Foxcatcher" has made him a hot commodity in Hollywood right now. He’s even got a role as Gambit in the next “X-Men” movie. Meanwhile, Pratt is also sitting pretty as the lead of two major franchises, “Guardians of the Galaxy” and the upcoming “Jurassic World.”

As Screenrant notes, it’s possible that these leaked reports are the first that Pratt has heard of the project given that he’s not looped into any of the conversation e-mails.
