Plexus Corp., an electronic manufacturing services company, said on Friday that talks have begun to purchase an additional manufacturing facility in Malaysia in order to meet the demands of its customers.

The new 23 acre facility will be Plexus' third plant in Malaysia and will provide additional space for making goods for the Electronic Manufacturing Services (EMS) industry by providing product design, testing and the manufacturing of goods in industries including the medical, aerospace and commercial industry. The initial investment for the new facility is estimated to be $13 million. Plexus said additional investments for the expansion of its building and to installation of more machinery and equipment will cost approximately $25 million for fiscal 2007.

"Advanced design, manufacturing and logistics solutions are increasingly important to our global customers. This new facility will allow us to increase our ability to offer such solutions in Asia,' said the vice president of Plexus' Asia Operations, Y.J. Lim.

This investment follows Plexus' strategy to develop an Engineering Services Hub in Asia. Production of the new manufacturing facility is expected to begin late in the second quarter of fiscal 2007.
