There are some updates from Chronic team member Pod2g and the hacker MuscleNerd, for those who are waiting for the iOS 5.0.1 untethered jailbreak for their iOS devices, especially the iPhone 4S and iPad 2.

According to Pod2g's blog, the untether failed because of processor cache issues. But he said he could sort out the issue soon.

In his blog, he wrote:

Hello.

Here are the news of the 4S week-end.

The untether fails right now because I'm having processor cache issues.

I'm close, but I can't figure out what happens. It certainly has something to do with the Cortex-A9 cache management.

I could sort it out quick, it's a matter of chance.

I'll report you my progress tomorrow.

Last week, Pod2g tweeted that he got an iPhone 4S in hand and will work hard over the weekend. Earlier, Pod2g also said he has successfully finished the test on iPhone 3 GS, and he also said that after finishing the testing on A4 devices, the work on A5 devices will start.

Meanwhile, MuscleNerd also failed to release the iOS 5.0.1 untethered jailbreak for all the iOS devices. But recently he released the redsn0w 0.9.9b9 for iOS 5.0.1 tethered jailbreak.

Redsn0w 0.9.9b9 tethered JB released. Please see update #17 for what's new! MuscleNerd tweeted. This update has been so long in coming specifically because of those other things.

This is still a tethered jailbreak for all except old-bootrom 3GS users, MuscleNerd posted on the iPhone Dev-team's blog. Version 0.9.9b9b enables the Custom button for Windows users, and make the 3GS week 35 warning a more explicit part of the process, he added.

After the release of redsn0w 0.9.9b9, a Twitter user named @Rmart73 replied to MuscleNerd, saying seems like Skype doesn't play well with either the jailbreak or semi-tether #ios5-0-1 twitpic.com/7vb7qs.

Another person also said, Skype hasn't LIKED jailbroken devices for as long as I've been using them, since iOS 3.0 :P Not once have I had an issue, though.

The holiday season is almost here (Happy Holidays!) so we realize everyone is busy (especially @pod2g!), MuscleNerd said in iPhone Dev-team's blog. And even though we always recommend that jailbreakers stay where they are until a new untethered JB comes out, that's not always possible. So we've updated redsn0w for those who may have found themselves at iOS 5.0.1.

The team added some other useful features such as allowing Windows users (not just OS X users) to use the 'Custom' button to create IPSWs without baseband updates. (Update: please use 0.9.9b9b for this!)
