Niantic’s Pokémon Go Valentine's Day event went live on Wednesday. Just like the game’s Halloween event, it is also a double candy event.

The event came as a surprise to many players, since Niantic broke its tradition of announcing event dates in advance.

The highlight of the Valentine-special event is the spawn of Pink Pokémon. Popular Pokémons such as Chefable and Chansey are expected to spawn more and other such as Igglybuff, Cleffa and Smoochum are expected to hatch from eggs more frequently. In addition to this, lures will last for a duration of six hours during the event.

The week-long event started from 11 a.m. PST (1 p.m. EST) on Feb. 8, and will continue till 11 a.m. PST (1 p.m. EST) on Feb. 15

Despite the announcement, players were a bit underwhelmed as the features did not match up to the expectations of being able to get gendered Pokémons or breed Pokémons. However, the event still has features to look forward to — players can get their hands on Chansey, one of the rarest Pokémon in the game and also stockpile double Candy for the Gen 2 update, expected later this year.

While some Pokémon have been confirmed to spawn, players might have to wait a little longer for the others to start spawning. Chansey, Clefable, Porygon, Clefairy, Exeggcute, and Jigglypuff are spawning, while Cleffa, Igglybuff and Smoochum hatch. Lickitung, which is generally pretty hard to find is also spawning. The probable ones that would spawn include Wigglytuff, Slowpoke and Slowbro.

While it is unlikely that players would get to see Mr. Mime spawning due to region locking, a more curious case is Mew, which has been classified as Pink but is yet to be sighted. The hope is that Niantic is retaining the Pokémon for a special event in the future.
