Chevron’s Polish subsidiary says it is merely exploring for shale gas near a Polish village. Reuters

Chevron Corporation (NYSE:CVX) said it has all the right permits to develop a shale gas site in a Polish village despite claims to the contrary from local protesters who dub themselves part of Occupy Chevron (Poland), Bloomberg reported Friday.

“Our exploration program is progressing,” Chevron spokeswoman Grazyna Bukowska wrote in an email to Bloomberg.

The Occupy Chevron (Poland) Tumblr website showcases the group’s claims that Chevron is illegally fencing off a site in the village of Zurawlow. The group has occupied the site in protest since early June and wrote on its website, “We demand Chevron to give up its plans and leave our land.” It has circulated anti-Chevron ads in Warsaw.

According to Bloomberg, Chevron has said that its Polish operations are key, even though other energy companies have exited the country. The company, the second-largest U.S. oil firm, employs about 30 people in its Warsaw office, according to its website, and is still only in the stages of exploring for natural gas from shale.

It has also issued a fact sheet about its operations in Poland.
