Pope Benedict XVI recently paid his first visit to Cuba, meeting with President Raul Castro and communist revolutionary leader Fidel Castro.

During a mass held in Santiago de Cuba, the 84-year old pontiff appealed to the Cuban people to strive for an open society.

I appeal to you to reinvigorate your faith ... that you may strive to build a renewed and open society, a better society, one more worthy of humanity, he said.
