In less than one year the second case of HIV has been detected in the porn industry. The first one being in December of the male porn star Derrick Burts, who tested positive for HIV.

Can this be taken as a sign of the fact that the industry is not the same anymore? The porn industry has been an all time expanding industry, with a rapid growth in the number of performers, to the far expanding locations of the shoots. As a result, the performers hardly have any idea of whom they are even working with.

Just a few years ago, I would know any guy in the business, said an unnamed female performer, according to a report in MSNBC.

And if I did not, I could find out about him with a phone call to friends. I knew if he was sketchy and I didn't want to work with him. There used to only be a dozen big-name guys in the business, and I'm talking less than 10 years ago. But the Internet, the crossovers (guys who do both gay and straight porn), and the move of the industry away from California has changed that. Now, I show up and it's all these druggy-looking 18-year-olds who no one knows anything about, she added.

Performers now have to travel to different countries for shooting and another performer says that the actors do not get to meet or see the partner unless they meet for the shoot directly.

Previously, there used to be a database maintained by the Adult Industry Medical Clinic (AIM) in Los Angles, and performers could rely upon that to help them be safe.

AIM was the medical testing center and almost the whole industry depended on it for medical records of the performers. It closed down in May under the financial strain following lawsuits after the Derrick Burts scare. When AIM was open, if a performer tested positive, a quarantine list could be swiftly generated showing who that performer worked with, who those people he worked with had worked with in turn, and so on, MSNBC report stated.

The actual scare started once AIM was shut down.

I've been in the business four years. I've seen it spread out to Florida, Vegas, and everywhere. Also, I have seen the number of male talent increase dramatically. They are all young, good-looking party guys. Honestly, I prefer the good old days when it was the dream team of a few guys you could trust. says adult star Kristina Rose.

She also says that the producers need to be more careful and a stricter screening should be conducted while finalizing the male performers.

The male starts chosen on the basis of who is willing to work for the least amount of money. But then it might already be too late to look back, with the already uncontrollably expanding porn industry, there is too much shooting already going on to keep track of any kind of database, says porn blogger South, according to the report.
