RTTNews - Stocks moved sharply higher at the start of trading on Thursday, with the major averages moving back to the upside after showing a notable decline over the course of the previous session. The initial strength reflected a positive reaction to the latest batch of economic data.

Benefiting from an increase in most major commodities prices, resource stocks are turning in some of the best performances in early trading. Health insurance, brokerage, and trucking stocks are seeing some early strength.

In the past few minutes, the major averages have pulled back off their highs for the young session, although they remain firmly positive. The Dow is currently up 61.49 at 8,361.51, the Nasdaq is up 14.44 at 1,745.52 and the S&P 500 is up 7.27 at 900.33.
