OTTAWA, ONTARIO -- (Marketwire) -- 08/05/10 -- Caribou Copper Resources Ltd. (TSX VENTURE: CKR) (the "Company") is pleased to announce the results of its recently completed trenching program.
As part of this year's exploration activities on its Caribou Dome property, and in preparation for this year's drilling, the Company exposed copper mineralization in nine (9) trenches in the eastern portion of mapped surface mineralization. Fifty-three (53) chip samples were collected across visible oxide copper mineralization of which fifty-one (51) were collected within the nine trenches. One (1) additional grab sample was taken from an outcrop in the same area.
The samples were sent to ALS Chemex in Fairbanks, Alaska for analysis. ALS Chemex assay procedure ME-ICP61 was used to quantify the presence of 33 elements, with those assays showing greater than 1.0% copper being subjected to an additional Cu-OG62 procedure. In addition, all of the samples were tested for gold using ALS Chemex assay procedure Au-AA25.
Individual sample assays were combined by the Company to produce results for each trench. A cut-off grade of 0.5% Cu was used in determining the length of mineralization in each trench. Trench results are summarized below:
Trench 1 - 2.69% Cu over 2 meters
Trench 3 - 3.23% Cu over 3 meters, (including 4.4% over 2m); 5.1g Ag over 1m
Trench 4 - 4.03% Cu over 7 meters, (including 7.13% over 3m); 6.18g Ag over 7m (including 9.9g Ag over 4m)
Trench 5 - 2.96% Cu over 2 meters; 6.35g Ag over 2m
Trench 6 - 1.99% Cu over 2 meters; 17.8g Ag over 3m (including 27.6g Ag over 1m)
Trench 7 - 1.7% Cu over 7 meters, (including 4.12% over 1m); 7.8g Ag over 7m
Trench 9 - 1.36% Cu over 4.5 meters, (including 3.14% over 0.5m); 1.5g Ag over 4.5m
Trench 10 - 2.92% Cu over 2 meters, (including 4.85% over 1m); 3.85g Ag over 2m
Trench 11 - 3.78% Cu over 2.5 meters, (including 7.77% over 1m)
Sample 959607, taken approximately 20 meters west of Trench 4 across the mineralized trend - 7.9% Cu over 1 meter; 12.9g Ag over 1m.
Sample 959608, taken across the surface mineralization of lode 8 - 2.48% Cu over 1 meter.
The highest assayed grade of 8.92% Cu over 1m was noted in Trench 4 with the highest assayed grade of Ag of 27.6g/ton occurring outside the Cu cut-off in Trench 6.
The results of this field work will be used to identify drill targets in lodes 3, 7 and 8, which have seen very little historic drilling.
