Today, MPX reports results for the second quarter of 2010 and updates shareholders on the progress of its projects.

Quarter Highlights and Subsequent Events:

• The Environmental Secretary of the State of Maranhão (SEMA) granted the Preliminary Environmental License to the MPX Parnaíba power generation complex, which consists of gas-fired plants that are expected to provide up to 1,863 MW of power.
• OGX Maranhão, a joint venture between MPX (33.3%) and OGX Petróleo e Gás S.A. (66.7%), initiated drilling of well 1-OGX-16MA, located in the PN-T-68 block in the Parnaíba Basin, State of Maranhão. Drilling operations on the prospect, named California, should be concluded in approximately 70 days.
• OGX Maranhão identified the presence of gas in the Devonian section of well 1-OGX-16-MA, in the block PN-T-68, in the onshore Parnaíba Basin. After drilling the first 10 meters in the Devonian section with significant gas shows, in the depth of 1,654 meters, OGX Maranhão conducted a Drill Stem Test, which showed promising results.
